I want an end date!

I want an end date!

They announced changes in my office today. They are also announcing my new position. With a different department. But they won't tell me when my last day will be. I want an end date! I want to be away from all the whispering and conspiracy and nasty politics that these people feel they have to play. I also want to be away from being bored out of my mind. I mean really.

You want to know how I spent my morning? Freeman bought some bacon last night for breakfast (it's really yummy) and it was a product of Canada. So, we started having this discussion about Canadian Bacon, and what do Canadians call bacon versus ham? And what the heck is Canadian Bacon to begin with? Being that I have more time than anyone else to look up these things - here is what I found:

Definitions:
Canadian Bacon: Lean, trimmed, pressed, smoked purl loin
Bacon: back and sides of a hog salted and dried or smoked; usually sliced thin and fried
Ham, jambon, gammon: meat cut from the thigh of a hog (usually smoked))

What do Canadians call Canadian Bacon?

1. Back bacon's not the thick, processed cold cut-looking stuff that Oscar Mayer calls Canadian Bacon. Not being well-versed in pig anatomy, I'll only venture that it comes from the back of the animal, and if you ever see a slice (or "rasher"), it looks a lot like a wafer-thin pork chop, in that it has a lean, meaty roundish main bit, and then a streaky arm of meat going off to the side like a handle. It's salt cured, and I'm not sure it's smoked, but for my money it's a lot less fatty than American bacon (which the British call "streaky bacon"), but not as processed and manufactured as what we think of as Canadian bacon. Hope this helped.

2. Canadian bacon: This is what Americans call back bacon. The long strips you usually eat for breakfast are called side bacon in both countries.

Well you just have to check out the last site yourself. Really you have to!

And that is what I did this morning for, um, 10 minutes...
