Dreaming…Badly

Lots of people had weird dreams last night – here’s mine:

I was staying in someone else’s house.  I was vacationing there with my mom, Rick, Freeman and several others.  It wasn’t late, perhaps 7pm and I was very tired.  No one was around but my mom.  She was in the kitchen, doing something at the sink.  Fashioning something.

The kitchen was filthy.  There were dirty dishes stacked high in the sink.  The floor was stained and covered in grime.  The counters were covered in stuff, dishes, food, utensils, massive amounts of stuff.

Mom saw how tired I was and told me to go to bed.  So I went.  For some reason I was wearing 80’s style garb.  I had on jeans that had bleach spots, had a high waist and tapered legs.  The sweater I was wearing was white with a huge boat neck.  It kept slipping off my shoulders.  I also had on huge white socks.

Next Scene:  I was walking back into the kitchen.  I looked around to see what mom had been working on.  For some reason she had tied 3 soybeans together and hung them from the kitchen faucet of the sink.  Slowly crawling down to the soybeans was a very large, hairy black spider.  I noticed how the hairs on the spider were similar to the hairs on the soybeans and thought maybe that is the reason mom hung it there, to attract the spider.

I shuddered but moved into the kitchen to make tea.  I didn’t put water on to boil, but proceeded to the cabinets to find a tea bag.  I opened the cabinet to find more spiders.  I continued to look for the tea, desperately trying to avoid the enormous onslaught of big black hairy spiders.  They are suddenly everywhere.  They were tripping over the dishes on the counter, crawling over the crumbs of food, popping out from behind the stuff that covered everything.  I dropped something, bent to pick it up, and saw a nest of them below the lowest cupboard.

Next Scene:  Dogs are at the front door.  They are the neighbor’s dogs.  Average dogs, one is slightly larger than the other, one slightly darker, they are both happy in appearance.  They are at the front door and happen to be dressed up.  They are both wearing caps, one is bright pink with a white lace ruffle, and bed coats.  This seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Except that I know these dogs have a sinister plot in mind.  As soon as I saw them, I knew it meant trouble.  I set off to find my mother.  She is not easy to find, I walk around calling for her, unable to find her.  When I do find her it is in the “in-between” space in my dream.  No where specific, kind of dead space.  I tell her about the dogs and about the spiders.  She informs me that Rick has killed all the spiders (in my dream I focus back on the kitchen to see some of them are still moving about so I know that isn’t true) and the dogs have no sinister plot hatching.  They are dogs.

Next Scene:  The dogs are making off with a baby.  It’s not a real baby, but at the same time it is.  It is real and not real at the same time.  I’m upset as I take it from the mouth of one of the dogs and wave it in front of my mother.  “See?” I tell her.  She looks at me and says, “Honey we are getting ready to leave, you need to take care of the hot tub.” Apparently the way I take care of the hot tub is to get it in “wave” mode and then empty 40% of the water out.

Next Scene:  I am walking in soft dirt where sprouts are planted in an attempt to reach the hot tub.  I first have to walk through a shallow pool.  I cannot get into the pool until my feet are clean, but Freeman has the hose and is off doing something else.  I sit patiently by the pool and attempt to pull spouts from between my toes and replant them.  Finally Freeman comes over to help me clean my feet and I am off to the hot tub.

As I approach the hot tub I find a remote control in my hands.  I push the ‘on’ button and the hot tub immediately starts to engage in the wave mode.  I then spend the remainder of the dream arguing with people about how much a 40% water reduction would be.

It was a weird dream.  When I woke up I was left with the images of the spiders.  I still can’t shake them.  It was 4:30 am when I woke.  I have been up ever since.
