Mornings…

Mornings...

Sometimes I simply have to laugh. Especially when things happen as they did this morning.

First off, my body decided to ignore my alarm in favor of have a weird dream. This dream consisted of me painting, then after painting and putting everything away, realizing that I had orange paint on my feet. There were orange footprints all over the carpet. It was kind of amusing, what could possible take out orange oil paint? I seemed to ponder this quite awhile in my dream, not realizing that my alarm was blaring at me to get up. When I finally tore myself away from the orange footprint issue, I realized there was no way I was going to make my normal bus, so I lay in bed a bit longer.

Getting ready this morning was a bit of a fiasco. At one point I spilled an entire glass of water all over the place. It mostly landed on the toilet paper roll. Yeah. Glancing at the clock I knew I had to hurry to make the next bus, so I threw down a towel and continued getting ready. Can't wait to see what that mess looks like when I get home!

Ah, ready at last I truck down to the bus stop. I was standing on the corner, waiting for the light to change, as the bus I was trying to get rolled by without even stopping. Apparently I was the only one waiting for that particular bus. I walked the rest of the way and waited.
I didn't take the next 15 local because it was full and I didn't want to stand. I didn't take the next 18 local because the 17 express should be right behind it. And it was. At least it appeared to be.

The 17 "express" was apparently mis-labeled. I ended up on a 17 local, which is one of the longest bus rides ever. I should have gotten in the office between 7 and 7:30. I ended up getting in a little after 8. Nice.

I figure I just needed more time to read this morning smile

Really, I am laughing about the whole thing. Getting upset would only make me more upset. I am wondering what will happen with the rest of the day. Should be interesting to say the least...

My Teacher is a Wanna Be Diva…

My Teacher is a Wanna Be Diva...

Last Thursday and Friday I took a business writing class. Specifically, "Business Writing that Counts." It was an interesting couple of days. Thursday was so much more interesting that I had to take notes to keep track of all the silliness that kept happening. So, before I get into the story, let me preface this by stating the fact that I try and take a business writing class every couple of years. It keeps management very happy with you. It looks and sounds good as well. So, whenever I take another class I immediately regret the fact that I am putting myself through more self inflicted misery. It's for the good of my career, I tell myself over and over...

Thursday morning started out the same as many others. I got to work early so I could get some work done before class. Not that I have that much to do, but meeting minutes won't get written unless I am the one writing them. So, I had already been at work for over an hour when I left to go to class. I was a little wired that day anyway, probably because I was up early and actually working on stuff. Class was a bit of a let down, but I tried to sit quietly and get though it regardless.

Why she's a diva:
I sit next to the training team that puts together this class. It is really entertaining to hear what they have to say about a teacher before you go and sit in class. This particular teacher gets paid $500 a head. Knowing that, here are some things she apparently can't do:
  • Plug in her own computer
  • Take attendance for her class
  • Buy her own water
  • Open her own water bottles
  • Unplug her computer

She also apparently forgot her manners when she decided it was OKAY to take a phone call during class. Seriously. During class she decided to take a phone call. I don't really care WHY, even if she felt she had a good reason (she was meeting someone at lunch) you don't take calls when you are the TEACHER.

All of this was before lunch...

During lunch, I decided to go to the beginning of my group's holiday party. This was probably a mistake, but I passed one of my co-workers on her way out and she looked so forlorn I joined her. We headed towards the restaurant and I tired to fill her in on my wacky diva teacher, but she wasn't really paying attention. I figured it was a lost cause and gave up. We caught up with a couple other ladies from the group we were joining and headed into the private dining room.

First off we ordered cocktails. Yeah! Drinks at lunch totally rock! Especially when you are in a class you aren't enjoying. Unfortunately, they only ordered seafood appetizers, so I wasn't able to temper my cocktail with food until I had finished the cocktail and taken my lunch with me back to class. It was very interesting. For a holiday party it was so muted and understated, I was relieved to leave. I felt sorry that my co-worker had to stay.

The afternoon was pretty boring as well, except for the fact that I was suddenly tipsy and kept laughing at everything. Oh, and we had a fire drill! That totally rocked as the Diva got completely upset. The strobes went off a second time and she actually sent someone in the class to see if there was something they could do to make it stop.

Okay - have to work a little - more later...

Apparently…

Apparently...

even though I now have a computer at home, and have virus protection (thanks Freeman!) I still can't find the energy to sit in front of the PC and blog. No, I wait till I get to work and try it squeeze it in somehow.

Funny thing, last night I saw a car completely covered in 3x5 floppy disks. Someone had painted them different colors and then stapled them onto a car. I saw it from across the street and the car looked like it was covered with paint chips of some sort. So I crossed the street to see and was amazed! People can be so creative on Capital Hill!

I've been all about the dance these past few days. Saturday night I went and saw a burlesque show. It was my first. It was pretty neat - and yes it was my idea. I know a couple of the ladies who were performing and thought it would be fun. It was. The troupe I saw is called Burning Hearts. Last night I went to the Pyramid Lounge for Belly Dancing! Whoo hoo!!! It was fun.

Okay - better get SOME work done this morning...

contest

Jeff Brechlin of Potomac Falls, VA recently won the Washington Post Style Invitational contest that asked readers to submit "instructions" for something written in the style of a famous person. Jeff's entry was The Hokey Pokey, as written by William Shakespeare.

"O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heaven's yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke--banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about."
