Gone Missin’
The last few weeks have been a bit of a mental trial for me.
I’ve been really sick and very tired. I finally took all of last week off from exercise and late nights (with the exception of belly dance.)
I seem to be recovering, though my cough is sticking around for a bit longer than I like. It’s not horrible, though. It’s just one of those lingering irritants. Trust me, I’ve been keeping an eye on it.
So I’ve been sleeping a lot. Getting sick 3 times in a row is not a sign of anything good.
Note to self - take better care of me.
Onto LIFE!
I got a wacky wild idea and decided to judge scholarships for MENSA this year. I ended up having to pour through 60+ essays. It was a different experience. I’d never thought so much about other people’s abilities to express their dreams and desires on paper. It’s a hard thing to articulate, but I have to say if you (or someone you love) ever decides to write a scholarship please, PLEASE follow the instructions. If the essay calls for a goal statement - put it up front and build off it. I know has been hard, and I know you have overcome a lot to get where you are. But in order to give you money to keep going, I need to understanding what you want.
Some of the essays were heartbreaking. Some of the essays were silly. I can’t share contents with you because that wouldn’t be fair. All I can say is - I will likely do this again next year. And I will encourage people to a) submit essays and b) write clearly.
