Yes, I mean it

So, a few months ago I decided what my career path will be.  I’ve been busy looking for a new job ever since, as my current group does not have any opportunities for me.  The area is project management and my current group already has a “project manager.” At least that’s what he’s calling himself now…but that’s another story.
As I have decided what I want to do, I’ve been studying to figure out what I need to get to make myself “official.” Training, certifications, all that jazz.  I’ve signed up for several training courses and have been working on my paperwork for the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
I’ve not been sitting still.
I purchased a study guide and a couple of reference books and I’ve been working through them in preparation for the test (mind you I’ve just started so it will be awhile before I actually take the test.)
I was walking to a different floor to study, but today I decided just to sit in one of the little meeting areas.  I didn’t feel like getting on the elevator.
What an interesting experience that was!  Every team member that walked by had to stop and say something to me.  The best was when my “Team Lead” stopped by.  This is how it went:
TL(Team Lead): You look like you are studying!
Me: That’s because I AM studying
TL: Really?  What are you studying for?
Me: The PMP certification
TL: Really?  Huh, you are taking this new career thing seriously aren’t you?
Me (Thinking “Duh”): Well of course, it’s not like anyone else is going to do this for me.
TL (Noticing the book in front of me): Who paid for that book?
Me: I did.
TL: Wow, you really ARE serious about it!

It amazes me over and over again that these people think I was just changing my career path on a whim.  As though I just decided one day that I wanted to be a Project Manager so I thought I would try it out for bit and see what happened.  It will be gratifying when I’m hired into a project position and my career starts soaring because I’m so good at it!

Blog Frequency

You know that old saying, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”?
Well, I’ve been living by that saying.
Last week I was moody, grouchy and unhappy.  Mind you there were no specific reasons for my moodiness.  I am generally unhappy at work, but there is no reason to fill my blog with that junk.  Other than my dislike for my current position, nothing else is wrong.  I’m happy at home, my hobbies are going well (with the exception of that pesky novel that doesn’t want to be written) and I’ve been exercising regulalry.
So, since I didn’t have anything nice to write, I simply didn’t do it.  I’d rather be happy than grouchy and I’m sure you’d rather read something nice than something snarky.
I hope your week was better than mine!

Shopping

Mom and I went shopping this weekend.  Shopping for us is more about talking then buying.  We do a little buying, but don’t get too carried away.  It’s about bonding, keeping in touch, and venting.  Mom and I seem to communicate better when we’re not stuck staring at each other – either from across the room or across the table.
We think better on our feet.
This weekend we did a little more boutique shopping.  It was all about the senses.
We started out in this high end antique/junk shop.  It was three stories of junk crammed into one store.  Every where you looked there was more stuff.  In one area we couldn’t even walk around to look at what they had, so much stuff was piled up on top of each other.  It was incredible.  And the prices!  Mom and I looked at each other both thinking the same thing, “wait until we tell grandma about this place!” Some fur throws felt so real mom had to check the tag to see if they were really fake.  On one floor we both sneaked off our shoes to stand barefoot on a deep, softly piled rug.  We both wanted to take it home.
We headed off to the mall area to walk around a bit.  As I was craving chocolate, we decided to go to the New York Cupcake shop.  I love New York cupcakes.  The cake is so yummy and moist and the frosting…let’s just say mom and I were in heaven as we ate our little cupcakes.  We got the small, bit-size cupcakes.  They are very manageable and allow you to indulge in something wonderfully yummy without feeling like a pig.  Yum!
After the cupcakes we headed off to the tea shop.  I love tea.  We spent quite a bit of time in the tea shop, reading the different choices they had and deciding what to buy.  They had several samples out and I tried this great tea that tasted of chocolate and bananas.  I got some very yummy toffee flavored tea to drink.  It was so sweet, hot and good.  Just what I was looking for.
Then we stopped in this great little store with different oils and vinegars.  The sales lady was so excited about what she was showing us, part of me wanted to laugh with glee while the rest of me wanted to buy every combination she had us try.  So many oils and vinegars and they were so delicious!
I ended up with this great Roasted Sesame Oil with Cassis Vinegar.  They were so delicious; I wanted to feed them to hubby as soon as I got home.
Last we headed to a candle shop to replenish our candle supplies.  After purchasing a few candles we both decided it was time to get out of the mall before we bought the whole place!
All in all a great day!
