Birthday…

One of my best friend’s birthday was this last month.  I wanted to get her something very special so I got her this:

I bought extra cats to go along with it.  I also got her a journal…
This was her response:
Hahahahaha I love my crazy cat lady!  She’s hilarious!  Oh and the extra cats really add to it.  I opened those first and I was like huh?  Plastic cats?  I don’t get it.  smile The journal is pretty too.  Maybe I can write about my desires for 100 cats.

Stuff…

Saturday Night:
After moving all day Friday and doing the final clean-up Saturday morning, F and I spent Saturday afternoon unpacking.  By the time Saturday night rolled around we were too exhausted to go out in search of food.  We settled instead, for some freezer fare.  After eating the delicious meal of appetizers from Safeway, F got up to put the plates back in the kitchen.  I was sitting in the living room, not paying attention to anything when I heard F call from the kitchen…
F: Honey…
Me: Yes?
F:  Did you realize that all we have in the fridge is booze and condiments?
Me:  Well, I believe there’s frozen pizza in the freezer…

Update: We now have bacon, eggs, and muffins to go with the condiments and booze!

Moving:
The movie “Team America:World Police” has finally come out on video.  Both Ben* and F are big fans of the movie.  In the movie the directors make fun of Matt Damon.  When ever he is shown all he says is “Matt Damon.” It’s pretty funny.
Somehow, during the course of the move, Ben and F decided my futon should be named Matt Damon.  Then, it was decided F’s futon is Ben Affleck.  Matt is pudgy, a little nicer looking but pretty heavy.  Ben is thinner, pretty beat up, but much easier to handle.  Matt gets to live in the living room; Ben gets to live in the game room.  I’m pretty sure it’s a toss up as to who has it better…
*F decided that we would not hire movers as previously posted on this blog.  Instead he had his friend Ben up to help.  He was fabulous and made a very hard, long day as fun as it could have been.

I’ll have a pound of Lamb please:
Suhalia Salimpour was in town over the weekend.  We were lucky enough to get reservations to see her at a local Persian restaurant.  Going to belly dance shows in restaurants is always an “interesting” experience.  You are lucky to be able to see the dancers as they move around the restaurant and even the greatest performers have to move out of the way for waiters and bus boys.
We arrived at the restaurant 2 hours early, thinking we would eat, have a few drinks and hang out before the show started.  Upon arrival it was obvious that the wait staff was not interested in actually waiting on us.  We waited a good 5 minutes (if not longer) to be seated.  F had to actually ask for menus.  Once he did that we got mediocre service from a waitress who wanted to be anywhere but where she was.  The food turned out to be pretty good; we had a pound of grilled lamb with onions and rice.  The dancers were amazing (I was able to sit on my knees and see most of the performances.)
I don’t think I would be tempted to go back to the restaurant again, even for a performance by Suhalia.  She was amazing, but the service wasn’t.

Workers:
Or non workers, as the case may be.  Before I left on Thursday the person that took over my last position emailed me asking for a document I created.  I didn’t have time last Thursday to take care of emailing the document before I left for the apartment walk through.  She didn’t say it was urgent either, so I figured it could wait.  Apparently on Friday she emailed and called every one of my co-workers asking for the document.  Not a single person knew what she was talking about…
I got back in today to find 2 more messages and a voicemail regarding the document.  I shrugged and kept working on things I felt were urgent.  She continued to email me through out the day regarding this document.  The count at 2pm when I finally emailed her the document was 7 messages.  If that doesn’t smell of desperation I don’t know what does…

yes - still a bad blogger

It stinks, but I am just going to have to take a couple of weeks off.  I am moving next Friday and I still have to finish packing.  And then comes the unpacking...so I figure it will take at least 2 weeks for the dust to settle.  I’m exctied about moving and settling and all that jazz.  But man…
Regardless - I will resume my irregular blogging in a couple of weeks.  So sorry… wink

Ah, Sunday night

Ah, the relaxation that is Sunday night.  It’s like the calm after the storm before the next storm.
The last storm was Saturday night in Fremont.  We went down to one of the bars there to watch a couple of local bands.  It was actually really fun, with one exception.  We stayed to watch two bands play.  Well, one was a solo acoustical guitar player; the other was a band that included two sax players.  The guitar player was amazing.  His singing wasn’t that great, but the way he played…man.  It was mesmerizing.  He played for about an hour and proved over and over how much he really loved and knew his instrument.  I would go and see him again in a heartbeat.  The second band that played was REALLY loud.  They were fun to listen to – but I think I would have been able to appreciate them more if they weren’t so loud.  It was fun none the less.  I had a great time.
I worked on packing the rest of the weekend.  It has been really hard to pack because of the heat.  I’m having serious problems keeping the motivation to just move.  Let alone pack my entire apartment.  I think I’ve made progress, but man!  I still have a TON to get done.  At least I have one more weekend to gather more boxes and get it finished.
On that note, we’ve decided to spare our friends and ourselves and hire movers.  YEAH!  It’s so cool to think that we’ll have people coming to help us that do this for a living.  No more guessing about what should go first; they will be able to answer all of that for us.
I’ve discovered something else during this whole packing extravaganza…audio books.  Freeman first got one for us to listen to together.  I grabbed the new Harry Potter thinking I would find some time to listen to it.  I’ve been listening as I’ve been packing (or lying on the floor with the cat in the direct line of the fan wishing the heat would let up.) It’s been really cool!  (No pun intended…) Its fun to have something to listen to that isn’t mindless music.  I get to use my imagination and think about the story as I am packing.  Or lying on the floor.
The next storm starts again tomorrow.  Work has been building to a frenzied level.  So much that I am starting to feel overwhelmed.  It will work itself out as we develop habits and processes, but right now everything is chaos.  It’s fun and challenging and I love it.  People keep looking to me to do things, come up with answers, and fulfill their needs.  I feel like I have finally found a workplace that fits.
smile

I’m a bad blogger….

So, I went on vacation last week.  I had meant to do so many things, but I was caught up in the relaxation part of my vacation to the point where sometimes, I couldn’t bear to leave my couch.  It was wonderful.  So many exciting things that I may never write about.  Even though I meant to.
I had meant to carefully log every activity that happened.  To write up something wonderful about the places I went to, the things I did, and add pictures into the mix.  However, that may never happen because I am moving.
Yep – in 2 weeks I will be changing residences and then who knows what will happen?  Of course I am only moving 10 blocks from where I currently live, but life is a-changing!
I’ll work on being a better blogger…I really will!
