contest

Jeff Brechlin of Potomac Falls, VA recently won the Washington Post Style Invitational contest that asked readers to submit "instructions" for something written in the style of a famous person. Jeff's entry was The Hokey Pokey, as written by William Shakespeare.

"O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heaven's yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke--banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about."

Hahaha!

Hahaha!

So - Monday I didn't do anything at work. Okay, I attended a couple of meetings and had a few conversations, but for the most part I goofed off. Yesterday I had the whole tooth issue to deal with. Which included not getting into the office till 12:30. I was pretty useless the rest of the day too, I was in a bit of pain and my stupid gums kept bleeding so I couldn't really talk that well.

I started to feel a little guilty about all of this last night and decided that I would get up early, get to work and actually get stuff done today. So I got up and got to work at 7 this morning and immediately started digging in.

It's 11:30 and I have cleared my desk. I have a few outstanding items, but I'm pretty much through with all the work that had piled up while I was out of the office for a week and messing around for two days.

How totally and completely sad is that?
